Learning Engineering

Learning Engineering is a field that brings a new perspective on designing educational experiences and products. During the MA program at Boston College, I got a chance to experience creating various educational products by going through a design process which helped me appreciate looking at it from the Engineer's perspective is contrary to other cases when I was not using the approach:

First of all, it taught me to start from the problem rather than the solution: It is easy to get tangled in unorganized issues and thoughts and jump to the solution. The process gives a chance to go through a systematic design process and thoroughly understand the problem and what you are trying to tackle.

When you don't fully understand what you are trying to solve, it is easy to not let go of your initial idea, thus being scared of mistakes and failures in the process: The process taught me to celebrate and learn from mistakes and failures by going back to your problem and objectives and looking for another way of approaching the problem.

Constantly posing assumptions and testing them is an excellent indicator that you are less and less wrong each time and is a great way to plan ahead and solve problems before they have a chance to cost a lot after finalizing the project.

Is there just a single way to approach a single objective? Of course not, and the process helps you consider more than just a way to look at them as well as not get lost in the process as looking at the process as an engineer gives you tools and later makes it a habit to consistently base your iterations on your learning objectives, the population of learners and their variation.
